The Cake Lab PDX

For years, Sarah Spalding baked cakes for family, friends, coworkers, birthdays, celebrations, and sometimes for no reason at all except to brighten someone's day. She became known as the person who always showed up with cake—bringing slices to work, making birthday cakes for anyone who needed one, and finding joy in sharing something homemade and delicious with the people around her.

 

Then, in the fall of 2025, everything changed.

 

While visiting a local farmers market, Sarah had a realization: what if she baked cakes for a living?

 

That single thought sparked a conversation that quickly turned into a plan. Sarah's wife, Jen, immediately saw the possibilities. While Sarah loved creating cakes, Jen knew she could take on the administrative side of running a business—and actually enjoy it. Soon, she was helping shape ideas, brainstorming products, creating timelines, and turning a dream into something tangible.

 

In April 2026, Cake Lab PDX officially launched with an Instagram account, an offer to create custom cakes, and a brand-new Cake of the Month Club. The response was beyond anything they expected. Their first subscription sold out, sending 30 slices of cake out the door each month and proving that there were plenty of people who shared their belief that life is simply better with cake.

 

By July, Cake Lab PDX was growing—adding new products, refining our processes, and building a website to support what comes next. We can't predict exactly where this journey will take us, but we're excited to find out. One thing is certain: there will always be cake.
